Ras Al Khaimah

Jebel Jais cycling.

A long mountain-road climb, a rewarding summit stop and a very different ride from Dubai’s flat tracks. Plan the journey, access and descent before you leave.

Before you travel

Plan the mountain, not only the ride.

Jebel Jais is a sustained climb on a public mountain road. Your start point determines the distance and climbing, so confirm the event route rather than relying on one universal figure.

Getting there

Leave margin in the day.

From Dubai, allow roughly two hours each way and more on busy days. Fuel before the mountain ascent: there is no refuelling point on the upper road.

Driving route & final fuel

CSD commonly uses the E311 on the outward journey and the E611 on the return to reduce exposure to congestion around National Paints and Sharjah. The saved map identifies the traditional meeting area and the final fuel-and-supplies stop near Tasjeel Village ENOC. Road conditions and traffic can change.

Upper mountain access

Access beyond the security point is controlled. Carry the confirmed reservation or ticket details for everyone travelling, including the driver of a support vehicle. A 1484 by Puro reservation is required to reach the restaurant; the Jais Viewing Deck Park has its own separate day-entry ticket.

Ride prepared

Carry what the mountain demands.

Facilities cannot replace self-sufficiency. Conditions can change quickly between the lower road and the summit, especially on the descent.

  • Helmet, ID and charged phone
  • Working front and rear lights
  • Enough water, fuel and electrolytes
  • Puncture kit, pump or gas and basic spares
  • Suitable climbing gears and checked brakes
  • Wind layer and arm warmers for the descent
  • Sun protection and suitable eyewear
  • Confirmed booking, ticket or gate-pass details
Typical CSD format

Warm up together. Climb at your pace.

Each special ride is published separately. Its date, meeting time, cost, exact start, support and booking arrangements replace any old WhatsApp post.

1. Roll out

The group starts with a controlled warm-up before the sustained climbing begins.

2. Individual pace

Once the climb starts, ride at a sustainable pace and remain predictable around traffic and other cyclists.

3. Support plan

If a support vehicle is confirmed, it may move ahead and wait safely rather than obstructing the mountain road. Never assume support unless the event says so.

4. Regroup & descend

Assess clothing, hydration and brakes before descending. Control speed, hold your line and regroup only in a safe stopping area.

Prepare for an early mountain start.

CSD advises riders to be ready before sunrise, generally between 6:00 and 6:30 am in winter. Sharing the drive is encouraged because the ride can be taxing, and it is good to have company for the return journey and someone to chat with about the ride. Arrange shared driving directly between riders.

Check access, weather and road conditions on the day.

The mountain itself is open year-round, but attractions, restaurants and upper access have fixed or seasonal arrangements. Fog, rain, wind and heat can materially change the ride. Turn around if the conditions, bike or rider are not ready for a safe descent.
